Welcome to Year 2
Year 2 is a very exciting Year with the added challenge of SAT's which will take place in May 2019. Therefore, it is extremely important that Year 2 work hard this year and continue to show a positive and resilient attitude towards school work and life .
This year we will be investigating topics such as 'The Gunpowder Plot' and 'Materials' in science.
Year 2 must bring their PE kits to school every Monday and take them home each Friday to be washed. Year 2 are scheduled to have PE on Monday mornings but please be aware that this may change at short notice.
Reading is vital in Year 2 as the expectation is that children are able to read large chunks of text. Please ensure that you read every evening with your child, their reading diaries will be sent home with their reading books and will be checked each day.
Reading books are sent home but children can read anything they wish once they have finished their books. Books will be changed weekly.
Each week your child will have maths homework sent home on Mondays which needs to be completed for Wednesday of the same week and literacy homework which will be sent home on Wednesdays to be done for Friday of the same week. Failure to complete homework on time will result doing the homework during breaktime. Spellings will be sent home every Monday for a spelling test the following week. Please note that the expectation for homework in Year 2 is twenty minutes for each subject.
Monday: Maths- to be in for Wednesday.
Wednesday: English- to be in for Friday.
Every evening - Spelling practice, reading to an adult (fill in records).
