Year 1 have been exploring different sounds that they can hear in the environment, as well as the different sounds that they can make with their hands. They have enjoyed learning an action song about the variety of sounds they can make using their hands.
We have explored the different sounds that the percussion instruments make and enjoyed performing a song called 'It's bonfire night' using some instruments as well as singing and performing actions. Through the song we learnt about duration. We identified which fireworks had long sounds and which had short sounds. Click on the link above to watch their performance.
Year 1 are now exploring 'Pulse and Rhythm.' We have practised keeping the steady beat to 'I hear thunder' and have explored simple rhythms in the rhyme and how these rhythms can be represented using picture symbols. We have practised singing and clapping the beat of the song 'This old man' and have used picture rhythm cards to follow and play the different rhythms in the song using the percussion instruments.
