Year 6 had the amazing opportunity to climb Pen-y-Ghent, part of the Yorkshire three peaks. We worked with a mountain guide who trained us to read Ordnance Survey maps and use compasses to navigate our way around our local area. He also taught us about rationing water and food which would provide us with the best energy sources for the expedition.
He trained us well and we felt ready for the mountain. Then, we saw it! Some children went very quiet when we finally arrived at the mountain side. We took our time and worked as a team, helping one another to climb tricky parts and scramble safely up the side of the mountain. When we reached the summit, the children were so elated that they performed their end of year dance, the Haka!
Every child who took part thoroughly enjoyed their expedition and learnt a lot about themselves and conquering difficult challenges.
