UF History day - William’s Castle - 4th October 2019
A visitor from Wakefield Museums joined us in UF on 4th October 2019. During the workshop we learned that Sandal Castle and Pontefract Castle are two local examples of medieval motte and bailey castles. We learned some actions to help us remember that the motte is a raised mound of earth that has a stone keep on top. We heard the story of ‘William’s Castle’ to help us understand what life would have been like for a child living and working in a castle a long time ago. We then rotated round 3 activity stations: 1) We designed a shield 2) we made medieval crowns 3) we used costumes and props for roleplay to remind us of the story.
