Starter- Spelling game linked below. Read the word it is showing you and spell it using the letters below. Children can extend this activity by writing a sentence with the words they are spelling. Who can write the most amazing sentence?
Task- Look at the first list of common exception words, from 'the' to 'was'.
Read through the words in the list and discuss it. Can you verbally produce a sentence with this word in? Children do not need to write the sentence but should be able to speak it confidently to someone in the house.
- Practice spelling the words in the first list a couple of times. Challenge: can you write it without looking?
Read the sentences below. Can children spot the common exception words they have learnt and read the words independently?
