The children had a fabulous time working with artists Jan & Bronwyn. The Upper Foundation children worked alongside the older children in school, making clay poppies. The children were taught various techniques: rolling out clay, sticking the clay back together, making patterns, the slab and slump and thumb pot techniques. The children used these skills in the afternoon to make a clay poppy.
The next step is to fire the poppies in the kiln before glazing them. It was lots of fun and the children are very excited to see the finished product. The idea is based on the poppy dedication to the Tower of London, to mark the centenary of World War 1. The poppies will be used to create a poppy installation along with the other classes at Greenhill.
