Stick Week 10th June 2013

To celebrate Stick week the Nursery children looked at the books 'Stick man' and 'Room on the broom'.
With Mrs Appereley, Mrs Hooley, Mrs Hamif and Mrs Thompson the children shared the story 'Stick man', made their own stick men, stick pictures and had sticks in the sand.

For our outdoor learning we shared the story 'Pooh sticks' and the children played the game pooh sticks using drain pipes, sticks and water. We also collected various sticks we found in our playground and transformed our outdoor play house into a witches den!

At the end of the week we read the story 'Room on the broom'. With Miss Hyland, Mrs Stott, Mrs Hanif and Mrs Mills we made our own witches potions and created the characters from 'Room on the broom' to fly on a broom stick on a display in our classroom. We had a very special visitor too, 'Mrs Witch!
See the 'Stick week' page below for more photo's of our fun!

Nursery Trip

Wednesday 5th June 2013

We had a very busy day at St Leonard's Farm in Esholt. We travelled there on a coach.

Farmer James told us all about the animals that lived on the farm and how to care for them. We got to meet a Lamb, a Guinea Pig, a Ferret, a Mouse, a Barn Owl, a Chick and a Chicken up close, in our special farm talk.

We walked around the farm and fed lots of other animals too, Sheep, Donkeys, Goats, Ponies, Meerkats...

We climbed upon a tractor and had lots of fun exploring the hay barn.

At Lunchtime we ate our packed lunches on the grass in the picnic area.

After Lunch we had lots of fun being very adventurous in the play barn. There were slides, ball pools, climbing walls etc, even the teachers enjoyed joining in!

After a busy day we all gathered together on the grass and enjoyed a nice cool ice lolly.

On the way home lots of us fell asleep on the bus.

We had a good time on our trip to the farm!

Ruby the chicken came inside to say hello...

A lot of our learning is outdoors so please ensure your children have appropriate footwear and always bring a rain coat. In winter please bring a warm coat and wellies and in summer you need to apply sun cream at home and bring a sun hat to nursery.

We now have our trim trail and willow nature area. We will observe how this grows and changes over time and encourage the children to water and look after the willow.

Our new Trim Trail.

Our Willow Nature Area.

Wednesday is the day when we hold our P.E. session, so our focus on that day is about physical development. The children go to the hall in main school and are encouraged to take off their own shoes, socks and jumpers. It is helpful for your child to practise doing this independently at home. We follow the 'Action Kids' scheme of work. We always start the session with the Action Kids warm up and end the session with the action kids cool down. The children pick up the words and the actions to this very quickly and enjoy joining in!

Baking at Nursery

We bake tasty treats every Friday. Please don't forget to pay your £1.50 baking money every half term. The children will take it in turns to help. They will bring home what they have made at library time.

Friday is library day. It is held at 11.15am for the morning children and 3pm for the afternoon children. It gives you the opportunity to come in to nursery and choose a book from the school library sevice with your child to take home and read over the weekend. All books should be returned on the following Monday. This also provides time to speak to the nursery staff if you have any concerns or question about your child or the nursery routine.
