WALT: identify landmarks in the local area and represent these on a map

OK Year 6 an activity away from the screen!

What is a landmark?

In our class novel, the red lighthouse is a landmark to the German 'Jerry' planes coming over to England.

You also discussed Landmarks with Mr.Fenton and produced some fantastic powerpoints comparing the city of Wakefield and Pen-y-ghent. You now need to use all those skills to create a map using your knowledge of landmarks.

I want you to take a walk outside around your street or the local park and take note of any landmarks.

Once back at your home, take in your blank books, draw a map with a key to those landmarks.

Adding a grid reference:

Like on maps you looked at with Mr.Fenton, some had a grid reference.

Look here for help with how to add a grid reference onto your own map!

Optional challenge:

Write 5 questions about finding a landmark or using grid references to find a feature on your map.
