Each year every class takes part in an extended writing task. The children are given a topic to focus on and a text type to write. Once they have written a draft version they are given feedback then asked to re-draft it correcting any errors and up-levelling it. Every child then has their second drafts checked before they edit it and write it up for display.
Each child then focuses on stunning presentation. The class teachers and support assistants are then asked to choose three pieces for the governor's writing award. Every child who is entered receives a certificate and a pencil and the winner in each class receives a pencil, certificate and a book. The whole school then has one overall winner who has their name engraved on the shield which stays in school.
The samples uploaded are the three nominees for each year group.
