Enjoying, Progressing, Achieving
Playdough is a useful tool in early years for developing motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
You can use shop bought playdough or you can make your own at home. The children often help to make the playdough at Nursery. Please be careful when mixing in the hot water.
2 cups of plain flour
1 cup of salt
2 tbsp of cream of tarter
2 tbsp of oil
2 cups of hot water
A few drops of food colouring
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl. In a jug mix the water, oil and food colouring and add to the dry ingredients. Mix well with a spoon. The mixture will be very wet to start with but as you mix, it should come together into dough. Kneed the dough really well.
Keep the dough wrapped in cling film in an airtight container.
You can use various tools found at home to play with the playdough such as a rolling pin, fork, spoon, pastry or cookie cutters. Make different things using the playdough such as animals, letters, shapes, anything that takes your fancy! I'm sure the children will have plenty of idea's!
Talk to your child about what they are making and why? Discuss the size, texture, smell, shapes and colours.
