As part of our Geography work on 'An Island Home', children used and added to a key to design their own islands. They then worked in mixed ability groups to create their own map (seen in these photos) and navigated a Bee bot to a specific location on the map. Children had lots of fun trying to programme the Bee Bot to get it to reach a particular location in one go, and if they were successful first time round, they got a point!
To make it more challenging, we put an object on the map which they had to figure out how to navigate the Bee Bot around.
Areas covered included Geography (creating maps and keys), Maths (position and direction), ICT (exploring /programming Bee Bots) and placing instructions in the right order. The children took turns and worked well with oneanother.
