Please continue to hear your child read at home every day and sign their reading record including any comments about how your child has managed the text. Please also write 'Finished' when your child has completed their book as this enables them to choose a new one to take home.
This takes place in school every day. Children read texts comprising of a range of genres as part of a small group and questions are asked to assess children's understanding.
Phonics plays a vital role in children's learning and ability to read and write. To help develop fluency and children's grasp of the basic English skills, they need plenty of practise with blending and reading words. In the Summer term, all Year 1 children take a Statutory Phonics test.
Every Friday, children will bring home Spellings to practise and are expected to hand these in the following Friday. They will always be words we have studied in class as part of our daily Phonics session during the week.
Mental Maths homework is sent home on a Wednesday and is due back the following Wednesday. This consists of 10 quick questions which children will have completed in class that day which they then take home for extra practise to see if they can improve their score and it also makes parents aware of progress.
In addition to this, there is Maths homework which is given out on a Thursday and is due back the following Thursday.
Children will have a Homework diary to record their homework which needs to be signed each week.
These need to be brought into school every Monday morning and taken home on the Friday afternoon. Our PE session will take place on a Tuesday but please ensure PE kits are in school for the duration of the week as the day may alter. Also, please ensure no jewellery is worn.
It is vital that children have good attendance and come to school every day (unless they are ill). Remember, the class with the best weekly attendance win the trophy and singing dog which I'm sure will enjoy being in class1! The school day starts at 8:50am and finishes at 3:15pm.
Thank you for your support, its fantastic to see so many children already reading at home daily and eager to come to school!
