Welcome to year 1.
Routines and important things to remember.
Please ensure that all homework is completed in homework books, not on sheets.
Monday Maths homework to be handed in on Wednesday.
Wednesday English homework to be handed in on Friday.
Spellings homework. Homework will be sent each week. Please ensure that the children record their spellings on the sheet.
Please read at home with your child. We ask that parents sign the reading record so that we know your child is reading at home, we find your comments helpful.
Please bring P.E. kits to school on Monday morning and leave in school until Friday. Ensure that it includes warm bottoms and a T shirt with sleeves. As it is getting colder children will need a track suit type top to wear over their PE shirt. Please include socks and trainers that fit.
Please sign your child’s planner each weekend. Planners are checked and signed in school each Monday. They are an important way for us to communicate and should be checked each week.

Monday 24th September Visit to the Methodist Church to find out about Harvest Festivals.
Wednesday 26th September David Walliams Book night 5:00 – 7:30
Monday 8th October Parents Meetings – appointments are available 7:30 – 8:45
in the morning or 2:00 – 5:30 in the afternoon.
Thursday 11th October Year 1 and 2 trip to Harewood House. If you haven’t paid yet please return your money to the office.
Tuesday 23rd October Year 1 Inspire Morning.
Friday November 23rd Year 1 and 2 trip to Wakefield Cineworld
Year 1 trip to Wakefield Library.
Year 1 visited the library in Wakefield. We had a super time and investigated toys from the past. We found out what toys were made from. We had the chance to make a timeline of different toys. We also got the chance to play with wooden toys and to make a card rocking horse.
Year 1 workshop with the author Charlotte Guillain.
Year 1 had an amazing morning working with the author of our class novel Doughnuts for a Dragon.
Charlotte came into class and introduced the character George. We heard the story and had chance to create our own pictures of a dragon. We will be basing our display writing on George’s adventures.
Year 1 and 2 visit the Methodist church to find out about Harvest Festivals.
Year 1 and 2 visited the Methodist Church. We were given a warm welcome and found out about what a harvest festival is. The children saw the display of food that had been donated for the food bank and learnt all about what would happen next.
Year 1 visit to Harewood House
Year 1 had an amazing trip to Harewood House. We visited the house and found out about how Victorians lived. We discovered the jobs the servants did and even got to see a princess bed. After lunch we walked through the bird garden and then took a trip on a boat to the bothy. There we found out about a character called John who was the bothy boy.
