Years 3 & 4 had a very musical visit from Wakefield Gospel Choir yesterday. The children learnt heaps of new information including: the history of gospel music; the terrible slavery and auctions of slaves; deeper meaning behind gospel songs and why slaves sang them and also the contrasting lives of the slave owners.
The children were taught a number of gospel songs including 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot'. They also had the opportunity to sing them with the leader of the choir - some even stood around the piano to sing the lead parts!
After reading the children's evaluations it is clear to see that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt lots of new and interesting things.
