Phonics

In lower foundation we use the Letters and Sounds scheme combined with Jolly Phonics.

We begin by teaching the soft sound each letter makes and not the name of the letter. This will help your child to be able to blend the sounds in a word to read what that word says for example...

 c  a  t   -   cat                     s  a  t - sat

Teaching the letters sounds is also supported by small groups completing a daily activity that promotes listening. These activities are found in the phase one section of Letters and Sounds scheme.
